Many times PVC glue will be required to complete a hot tub repair. Often a PVC primer or cleaner is used first on the parts to be connected.

A complete PVC repair kit can include various standard fittings, connectors, ells, tees, unions and other PVC plumbing parts.

PVC glue (usually the blue glue that sets fairly quickly or other medium or heavy bodied type of PVC glue), either pipe cutters or even a hack saw.

When making a PVC plumbing cut into hose or pipe, be sure the cut is even, straight and does not have PVC fuzz on it.

An applicator is usually attached to the lid of the PVC glue so it already comes with it. Similarly this applicator is also on the PVC cleaner. Apply with a smooth circular motion all the way around the joint to be connected.

For a solid connection, push the two parts together and give a slight twist to assure smooth distribution of the glue. Then hold for at least 30 seconds to a minute to assure a good bond is taking place without moving the connection.

Hot tub PVC fittings are referred to by their diameter. The most common PVC fittings used in modern day hot tubs are 1 1/2 inch and 2 inch plumbing sizes.

The actual outer diameter of the PVC connectors is usually somewhat larger so that the inner diameter is about the correct size. For example a 2 inch connector may actually be 2 3/8 inches in diameter.

Since this is standardized though, it is enough to know to order 2 inch PVC fittings to connect 2 inch hose and pipe, 1 1/2 inch PVC fittings to connect 1 1/2 inch hose or pipe etc..

Hot tub connectors are available in many standard pipe sizes and in different configurations and shapes.

Suction fittings are those that are found near the bottom of the spa footwell. They have a protective screen to avoid debris and entrapement. Water is pulled into the suction fittings by the pump and pushed back out to the plumbing which in turn is routed to the spa jets.
